SABLE Chemicals Says It Has Enough Fertiliser For 2020/21 Season

Sable Chemicals, Zimbabwe’s sole ammonium nitrate fertiliser manufacturer, has said that it has enough fertiliser stocks for the forthcoming 2020-2021 summer cropping season.

The company revealed this during the Thursday tour of its plant by Industry and Commerce Minister, Dr Sekai Nzenza who commended the company for producing enough fertiliser amid an economic crisis.

The minister urged Sable Chemicals to start considering invading regional markets to stimulate export growth and earn foreign currency.

She also pledged foreign currency support to Sable Chemicals saying it sits at the heart of national economic recovery.

Speaking at the same event, Midlands Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Senator Larry Mavhima said improved production plays an important role in the government’s agricultural recovery plan.

Meanwhile, Sables Chemicals Chairman, Mr Shingai Mutasa revealed that the company is targeting to become an industrial agro-processing hub for Midlands province. He said:

We are looking at the creation of other agro-processing products utilising the land that sits around sable chemicals…

This comes when over half of the Zimbabwean population is facing severe starvation after the country had poor yields in the previous farming seasons.

Local fertiliser companies have in the recent past been unable to satisfy local demand and at times, their prices scared off farmers who opted to import from neighbouring countries.
