Jailed Ex-Minister In Court Facing New Corruption Charges

Former Minister of State for Midlands province, Jason Machaya who is already in jail over criminal abuse of office was back in court this Tuesday on fresh allegations of criminal abuse of office.

Machaya is already serving 30 months in prison after he was convicted of criminal abuse of office and unlawful allocation of state land to land developers.

In the new case, he is jointly charged with ex-Midlands Provincial Coordinator Cecelia Chitiyo and five other government officials.

It is the state’s case that during the period Machaya was Midlands Minister of State, he allegedly connived with six other government officials to unlawfully allocate state land in Gweru and Gokwe.

Prosecutor Mirirai Shumba also told the court that the other five accomplices are Matilda Manhambo, Sherpard Marweyi, Sifelani Moyo, Ethel Mlalazi and Everest Nyamadzawo.
