Govt Planning To Make Zim A Fuel Hub, Reveals Plans To Build A Bigger Oil Pipeline Between 2022 and 2025

The government is according to the Herald planning to Make Zimbabwe a fuel hub by building an oil pipeline that will have the capacity to transport 50 Million liters of oil per day.

This was revealed during a NOIC tour the Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Dr Sibusiso Moyo, Energy and Power Development Minister Zhemu Soda, his deputy Magna Mudyiwa and officials from NOIC took part in.

According to the publication, the proposed pipeline will:

reduce the cost of transporting fuel to Zimbabwe and the regional hinterland from US$0,08 to US$0,03 using the pipelines and US$0,10 to US$0,06 using rail by 2025.

Briefing the touring panel, NOIC Chair Engineer Daniel McKenzie Ncube said:

By 2022, we plan to redesign a new pipeline from the offloading port in Beira to Mabvuku with an expected capacity of 50 million litres per day, so we would like to invite you to be part of our plans,

We are putting in place mechanisms to ensure that we achieve this level of competitiveness by pipeline. You can see the high cost of transportation by road. There is nothing we can do about it

However, in 2018, Joram Gumbo once said there is no need to build a second pipeline because the current one was not being fully utilized. The Feruka oil pipeline was built in the late 80s and it has the capacity to transport about 6 million liters of oil to Mabvuku in Harare.
