Enough (29%) Teachers Have Been Reporting For Duty - Mathema

The Primary and Secondary Education Minister Can Mathema has said enough teachers to take the writing classes candidates through their exam preparation are reporting for duty countrywide, The Herald reports.

Mathema said 29% of the teachers are reporting for duty and according to him they are enough:

It is correct that a number of teachers are not at work. On average about 29 percent are going to work. Remember only examination classes are back at school and those teachers going to work suffice the job at hand.

The teachers have their concerns and Government is addressing them. I want to assure learners and parents that exams will go on as scheduled. Learning will not be disrupted.

The first phase has resumed classes safely and we are now preparing for the next phase as well as putting in place measures to protect those already at school.

Meanwhile, teachers have vowed to continue with their strike as they said their meeting with the public service minister yielded no desired outcome:

We the undersigned teachers’ Unions wish to unequivocally state that the meeting that had been perceived to bring tangible results failed to bring such.

What the Honourable Minister Paul Mavhima did was to assure teachers that no one will be fired willy nilly from work as a result of incapacitation.

The position paper they presented to the government accused the government of prioritizing and showing favor to other civil servants especially the uninformed teachers.
