Striking Teachers Vow To Continue With Their Strike
Striking teachers have vowed to continue with their strike as the salaries negotiations with the Minister of Public Service Paul Mavima did not yield their desired outcome, the Daily News reports.
This was contained in the memo that was addressed to the teachers that was jointly signed by other teachers union that said the meeting with the minister did not yield any meaningful results.
However, the teachers prepared a position paper that they presented to the government. In the paper, the teachers accused the government of favoring other civil servants especially the uniformed forces and said:
….The irony of this situation has been your piecemeal and discriminatory awards for public service, State employees and civil servants with other State employees getting better rewards. This is surprising as much as it is shocking and indeed frustrating. The armed forces seem to be holding the better end of the stick whereby they get salaries that double the teachers’ salaries … we feel this is unjustifiable, unnecessary and provocative
Other publications have said some teachers have asked the government to authorize the return of incentives which were banned by the then Minister of Education Lazarous Dokora in 2014.

Teachers are demanding $520 or its equivalence from the government as they are earning an equivalent of $50.
