Supreme Court Extends Khupe's Stay In Office
The Supreme Court has granted opposition MDC-T interim leadership a further extension up to November 30 to hold an extraordinary congress.
The court had in March ordered that the party holds the congress not later than the 31st of July this year but the party currently led by Thokozani Khupe argued that the coronavirus lockdown made it impossible for them to comply with the ruling.
The congress is meant to elect the successor to MDC’s founding leader the late Morgan Tsvangirai who succumbed to cancer in 2018.
His demise has left a power vacuum that has created a prolonged gruesome leadership crisis which has since spilt into courts.
Thokozani Khupe accuses her nemesis, Nelson Chamisa of MDC Alliance of usurping power in the runup to the 2018 elections.
