Cain Mathema, the primary and secondary education minister in dealing with the issue of striking teachers who are not reporting for duty citing incapacitation reportedly said they were over 25 000 unemployed teachers who are on standby to replace striking teachers.

This was revealed by journalist Veranda Langa in a Tweet that said:

Education Minister Cain Mathema says 25 000 unemployed teachers are on standby to replace striking teachers
Teachers have long cited incapacitation and have not been reporting for duty since schools reopened on Monday.  Some parents are reportedly urging them to go to work and negotiate while they are performing their duties.
Public schools opened their doors to Grade 7, Form 4, and Upper 6 students on Monday since schooling was suspended on 24 March.
Yesterday a photo of an alleged female teacher with torn shoes was circulating on social media and according to Progressive Teacher’s Union Zimbabwe (PTUZ)’s secretary Raymond Majongwe, many teachers contacted him and said they were also incapacitated to the point of also not being able to buy themselves decent clothes and underwear.
Meanwhile, salary negotiations between the government and the civil servants which collapsed sometime late last month have resumed.
