Peter Magombeyi Was Not Poisoned
Former president of the Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors Association (ZHDA), Peter Magombeyi, was not poisoned when he was allegedly abducted by suspected State agents last year, latest toxicological results show.
After he was picked up about 30 kilometres from Harare three days after the alleged abduction occurred, five doctors namely Trust Zaranyika, Aaron Musara, Andrew Mataruse, Walter Mangezi and Shingirirai Meki signed an affidavit confirming that Magombeyi urgently required further functional brain imaging and toxicological evaluation.
Magombeyi had claimed that he was tortured and electrocuted by his alleged abductors, who snatched him from his rented home in Harare’s high-density suburb of Budiriro.
The High Court granted an order following an application by lawyers and doctors who were representing Magombeyi to allow him to seek medical assistance outside the country since the required services are not available in Zimbabwe.
The Zimbabwe Independent has established that a range of toxicological tests conducted on blood and urine samples extracted from Magombeyi show that the ex ZHDA leader had no traces of poison and alcohol in his body.

The series of toxicological tests to determine whether Magombeyi was poisoned during the time he was reportedly abducted were conducted by Neo Maimela, Chief Forensic Scientific Officer employed by the Botswana government and the results showed that there were no “… poisons, illicit drugs or controlled substances in the blood samples.”
The government has accused Peter Magombeyi of stage-managing the alleged abduction.
