COVID-19 Allowances For Civil Servants Extended

Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Paul Mavima has said civil servants and Government pensioners will continue to get their tax-free US dollar COVID-19 allowances until December.

Government offered monthly allowances of US$75 for civil servants and US$30 for retired civil servants in June as a temporary measure for three months to last August.

Mavima made the announcement on Friday while responding to concerns raised by the Junior Cabinet on the welfare of Government employees during a virtual Junior Cabinet meeting.

Mavima also revealed that negotiations are taking place between the government and civil servants and he hoped that an agreement on a cost of living adjustment will be reached soon.

He, however, said members of the APEX Council should be realistic in their demands.
