Chin'ono Says ED's Nephew Behind Persecution Of Lawyers Mpofu And Mtetwa

Hopewell Chin’ono has said, Tabani Vusa Mpofu, who heads the Special Anti Corruption Unit (SACU), who is allegedly President Mnangagwa’s nephew is behind the high profile arrest cases the country saw these last few weeks.

Hopewell Tweeted:

Mnangagwa’s nephew, Tabani Vusa Mpofu, is the head of that crooked and unconstitutional unit! He was behind my arrest and that of many others including @adv_fulcrum & removal of Beatrice abusing that illegal unit! It is used to target Mnangagwa’s critics & political rivals!

This was after MDC Alliance Spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere revealed that they were being prosecuted by people from SACU in a tweet that reads:

Our criminal matter is yet to start. We are now being prosecuted in the Anti-Corruption Court by the President’s Special Unit because one of the protesters had a poster written “No to Corruption.” We have changed courts 4 times this morning.

Advocate Thabani Mpofu who is said to be the victim of the same organisation commented on the matter and said:

You are quite right. He also conveniently forgets to spell his name properly in order to give the false impression that he is Advocate Thabani Mpofu. His sins are many. The day of reckoning is nigh.

International Crisis Group Consultant Piers Pigou also commented saying every Zimbabwean must know Tabani Mpofu and his alleged job in President Mnangagwa’s administration:

Every Zimbabwean should know who this man is & the role he’s allegedly playing at the behest of the Mnangagwa administration. This is Thabani Mpofu (NOT the Adv of the same name). He supposedly runs a special anti corruption unit but seems to be busy targeting regime critics.

This man, Thabani Mpofu, used to run the MDC’s research dept. Was he a corrupt ZanuPF plant who served his masters well & was amply rewarded for this. Perhaps the Meikles Group would like to explain their relationship with ZanuPF and the role played by its company secretary?

Tabani Vusa Mpofu has of late confirmed the arrests of many prominent figures including that of Harare Clerk Hosiah Masango a few weeks ago.
