ZIMSEC Starts Marking June Exams, Results Expected Soon

The Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) on Monday started marking the June 2020 Ordinary and Advanced Level examinations.

The development was announced by Zimsec public relations manager Ms Nicky Dlamini who indicated that results are expected before the commencement of the November 2020 Ordinary and Advanced Level examinations. Dlamini added:

Covid-19 testing for markers was done from September 8 to 11 and last week the results came and those cleared started checking in on Sunday. Today (Monday), marking started in earnest and we are making progress.

This comes after Zimsec board chairperson Professor Eddie Mwenje last week said they had, for a second time, extended the registration period for November 2020 Ordinary and Advanced Level examinations to October 2.

This was meant to accommodate learners and schools that failed to do so due to different reasons related to the Covid-19-induced lockdown.

Mwenje also said the examinations are going ahead adding that the council had already completed the printing of Grade 7 examination material.

This year’s academic year was in limbo due to the coronavirus pandemic with some stakeholders calling upon the government to extend it to 2021 or cancel it.
