Recent Khupe Recalls Decimates Harare And Beitbridge Councils

Khupe’s fresh recalls of MDC Alliance councillors in Harare and Beitbridge have almost rendered the councils dysfunctional, ZimLive reports.

Khupe yesterday recalled 11 Harare councillors and 3 councillors in Beitbridge including the border town’s mayor Morgan Ncube.

Harare recalls might render the council dysfunctional which might prompt the government to appoint a commission to run the council which according to an MDC T official was Khupe’s end goal and the MDC T was planning it since their candidate Luckson Mkunguma lost the mayoral election to Jacob Mafume.

MDC Alliance through its spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere said the recalls were illegal and were meant to subvert the will of the people. She said:

There can be no doubt that the recalls instigated by Zanu PF and their proxies are illegal and unconstitutional. We will fight this blatant electoral theft politically and use every tool available to us to ensure the will of the people is respected.

We believe in the inviolability of people’s votes and strongly condemn the attempt to subvert the will of the people through elite pacts and the imposition of a surrogate opposition.

Khupe is clearly in a destructive mode that’s costing the voters over US$18 million. This money would be better spent on improving the lives of the people.

We remain steadfast in fighting to win Zimbabwe for change.

ZEC has said the elections to fill the vacant seats will be held before 5 December.
