Inter-city Travel Ban Lifted, Registrar General, VID Offices To Reopen

Zimbabwe has lifted an inter-city travel ban that had been in place since late March when a national lockdown was imposed to curb the spread of SARS-CoV-2, the new coronavirus that causes the respiratory disease called COVID-19.

Briefing journalists in Harare during the weekly Cabinet briefing, Information Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said the issuance of passports, national IDs and death and birth certificates will also soon resume following the reopening of the Central Registry. Said Mutsvangwa:

Transporters who wish to ferry passengers should register with the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development to ensure that they strictly comply with Standard Operating Procedures for their sector which are compliant to the WHO guidelines and all COVID-19 regulations.

In support of this service, the Vehicle Inspection Department should also resume its services.

… Cabinet has approved that the Central Registry should reopen and offer services such as the issuance of births and death certificates, national registrations as well as passports.
