South African National Editors’ Forum Castigates Mangwana & Charamba Over Harrasing Journos

In a statement that was released this afternoon, South African National Editors’ Forum (SANEF) has asked Charamba and Mangwana to stop attacking their two senior journalists Peter Ndoro and Sophie Mokwena saying their constant attacks constitutes intimidation and they are a direct attack on freedom of expression, New Zimbabwe reports.

Part of the statement from SANEF chairperson Sbu Ngwala reads:

Those behind the abuse are intimidating, sowing disinformation and discrediting the integrity of news media outlets that report on Zimbabwe’s political crises. SANEF notes, in particular, the tweets by George Charamba, the press secretary in the Office of the President of Zimbabwe who is behind the attacks on the two SABC staffers, assisted by Nick Mangwana, secretary for information in Zimbabwe are creating significant professional harm. We are saying this must stop, SANEF believes that this hostile environment is a direct attack on freedom of expression

Charamba using his Twitter handle Jamwanda2 last week attacked Sophie Mokoena in a tweet that even insulted her womanhood and drew widespread criticism from Twimbos and people beyond the borders.
