Unki Mine Donates 10-Bed ICUTo Gweru Provincial Hospital

Unki Mine has reportedly donated a 10-bed Intensive care unit to Gweru Provincial Hospital to augment the government’s efforts to fight COVID-19, Business Times reports.

The donation which includes  ventilators, ICU beds, oxygen equipment and installation, personal protective equipment, multi-parameter monitors and other sundries were handed over by the Unki chairperson James Maposa who said this at the handover ceremony:

In addition to the health impact of Covid-19, the virus has had a devastating economic impact around the world, and Zimbabwe is no exception. I believe the mining industry will have a crucial role to play in our economic recovery efforts.…We will continue to play our part in supporting our employees, contractors and the broader economy

The PRC testing laboratory set up by the miner is being used to test samples from employees after it was recently licenced by the government. The miner has also drilled 17 Boreholes in Shurugwi communities as part of their corporate’s COVID-19 fighting initiative.
