MDC Alliance president Nelson Chamisa has hit back at his critics who consider him indecisive and spineless for avoiding a violent confrontation with the ruling ZANU PF party.
Addressing a church service in Glen View Harare held for late MDC national executive member and human rights defender Patson Dzamara who died Wednesday, Chamisa said he will not allow people to die for him to become president. He said:
No Zimbabwean must die because of politics. I receive calls from some supporters saying President Chamisa please give us the signal, I will never allow a single a person to die on my journey to State House.
Yes, you may call it what, but I don’t believe that any human being is worth dying for politics. We must die so that we make change and development in our communities.
Chamisa called for tolerance and peaceful co-existence among Zimbabweans, even though they hold different political beliefs. He said:
We must not be separated by political parties. They come and go, but our humanity exists forever. There are good people in Zanu PF, very progressive, like Acie Lumumba here. He is a citizen; he has his ideas.
I may not agree with Lumumba, but I respect his ability to think in a different way. That’s what builds the nation, that’s what keeps the nation going. They should be a competition of ideas.
Dzamara (34), is brother to missing journalist-cum-activist, Itai Dzamara, who was abducted by suspected State agents in 2015 and whose whereabouts remain unknown.
That’s a typical nationalist statement by Adv Chamisa. This is peace building. This is great leadership.
In soccer, a team planning to beat a rival does not use the rival’s formation, but uses a different a creative format and formula. Zanu Pf is violent, hence Adv Chamisa is right to avoid playing Zanu Pf’s format. Unfortunately he leads some excitable people like Job Sikhala! Peace and political tolerance is the way to go!
