Chamisa Had No Evidence To Challenge The 2018 Election Results - Mwonzora

Court resurrected MDC T 2014 structures’ secretary-general has taken a jibe at the firebrand politician Nelson Chamisa by claiming he had no evidence to challenge the 2018 election result, New Zimbabwe reports.

Speaking to the publication through Zoom, Mwonzora said:

…I told my friend Nelson Chamisa and other people that first of all, if we take this matter to court, we must have sufficient material for the challenge, which we didn’t have.The risk is that if a court makes a pronouncement, then that will be the end of the matter as far as the legal and the constitutional issues are concerned.

However, Mwonzora said the MDC Alliance which he was a part of then had a legitimate reason to contest the 2018 elections and said:

There was a problem of contested legitimacy in the country, there is no question about that…The issue relating to the elections of 2018 was taken to the Constitutional Court; in my respected view, it should not have gone there, if people wanted to have a political solution to it.

Mwonzora has insisted that his faction recalling Chamisa’s legislators and councillors is not personal as they are just carrying out their court-sanctioned mandate.
