Mali President Resigns After Military Riot

Malian President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita has resigned following the people’s movement that first saw the people taking President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita and Prime Minister Boubou Cisse into custody which then lead to him tending his resignation this morning, Al Jazeera reports.

In a televised statement that was broadcasted on the country’s national television Keita said:

Today, certain parts of the military have decided that intervention was necessary. Do I really have a choice? Because I do not wish blood to be shed. (I) have decided to give up my duty from now on.

It is still not clear if the military is now in charge of the West African country and no casualties have been reported since gunshots were heard in mali’s capital Bamako yesterday when the immunity started.
