Former Energy Minister Chasi Faces Arrest Over Corruption - Report

The Zimbabwe Anti-corruption Commission (ZACC) could move to arrest former Energy and Power Development Minister Fortune Chasi soon over allegations of corruption.

An unnamed senior government official told Midlands News that Chasi was trying hard to push several deals linked to controversial businessman Wicknell Chivhayo and his company Intratek Zimbabwe before his unceremonious sacking from Cabinet last week.

The official alleged that Chasi now owns a fleet of haulage trucks courtesy of some controversial businesspeople who have been doing business with power utility ZESA Holdings. The official is quoted as having said:

Like many other government ministers, Chasi has been under surveillance for some time now. Number one (Mnangagwa) is not happy at all as he suspects some of his Ministers of championing corruption, sabotage and undermining his authority among many other things. In the next coming days, I see him Chasi before the courts.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa fired Chasi from Government last week over conduct inconsistent with what was expected of him as a minister.
