While speaking about the cancelled meeting between his party and the SA envoys sent by President Ramaphosa with Daily News this week, Khupe’s spokesperson said MDC Alliance’s legitimacy accusations against President Mnangagwa were no longer relevant as they were finalised when the court dismissed the MDC Alliance court application on 24 August 2018, Daily News reports.
Speaking about the snub by the SA envoys Khalipani Phugeni said the country does not have a legitimacy issue:
It is that contestation which has brought polarisation in the country and impeding development. It is not fair to contest the president’s legitimacy when the courts ruled in his favour. When you seek adjudication you must accept the outcome and not hold the nation to ransom. So we expect the SA envoys to concentrate on allegations of human rights abuses.
Phugeni’s statements add fuel to speculation that the MDC T is working in cahoots with the government as they are opposing another opposition party more than the government.
