“Chin’ono Officially A Political Prisoner,” – Mahere

Opposition MDC Alliance national spokesperson, advocate Fadzayi Mahere has said an award-winning Zimbabwean journalist and filmmaker Hopewell Chin’ono is now officially a political prisoner.

Mahere speaks when the High Court this Thursday denied bail for the corruption whistleblower who was arrested on the 20th of July and charged with inciting public violence.

His arrest came after he had urged the Zimbabwean general populace to participate in anti-corruption protests that had been scheduled for the 31st of last month.

Mahere posted on Twitter urging the citizenry to continue demanding Chin’ono’s freedom. She said:

Hopewell Chin’ono is officially a political prisoner. Every progressive Zimbabwean must continue to demand his release. He is innocent. Let’s continue to demand his release. Freedom is a constitutional right. Let’s RETWEET & let the world know because #ZimbabweanLivesMatter🇿🇼

Chin’ono’s arrest and that of opposition leader, Jacob Ngarivhume of Transform Zimbabwe sparked controversy and attracted attention from the international community.
