A Matobo man is in a critical condition in hospital after he was struck with a log while trying to stop a beer brawl at Sun Yet Sen last week.
In a statement, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said the incident occurred on Thursday when the men were drinking beer at the homestead.
Police have urged members of the public to comply with COVID-19 national lockdown measures by avoiding unnecessary gatherings. The statement read:

In Sun Yet Sen, on 30/7/20, a male adult who had gone for a beer drink was assaulted with a wooden stick until he fell down unconscious. He had tried to stop an argument between his assailant and a resident at the homestead.
The man has since been admitted at Tselanyemba Hospital, in a critical condition. Members of the public are urged to comply with COVID-19 national lock-down measures by avoiding unnecessary gatherings.
Since the lockdown was imposed in March, over one hundred thousand people have been arrested across the country for violating lockdown regulations.
Local coronavirus transmissions have spiked in recent weeks with the capital Harare now considered a COVID-19 hotspot.
