The rulling party has said it a sound zero tolerance to corruption stance and they will not tolerate corruption by MDC Alliance officials who are implicated in the stands scandal which led to the arrest of Harare Mayor Hebert Gomba last week.
This was revealed in an article that was published on the Zanu PF website which said the no to corruption blitz was not going to spare “pretentious MDC Alliance holier-than-thou elements in the council”.
This was reportedly said by ZANU PF Director for Information and Publicity, Cde Tafadzwa Mugwadi who said:
The zero-tolerance to corruption mantra will not spare the pretentious MDC Alliance holier-than-thou elements in the council who are illegally allocating stands among their senior members in MDC corruptly. Among the corrupt beneficiaries are Pedzisai Ruhanya, Gladys Hlatywayo and many others as shown in the details below.
This is why the MDC has been calling for the release of a corrupt Mayor (Hebert Gomba) because they were beneficiaries to the proceeds of corruption at a time where even the majority of their members in Harare whom they are mobilizing to demonstrate on 31 July are homeless,
Mugwadi said the opposition usually complains about corrupt individuals being arrested and then being released and said corruption at councils must fall:
They complain of catch and release but now they are demanding the release of a corrupt official. Corrupt Councils must fall.
The stands scandal that Mugwadi is referring to has seen some prominent people like the CID’s CCU Director and the Harare Mayor being arrested. However several corruption cases are before the courts and very few people have been convicted for any of their alleged crimes.
