Govt Urges Citizens To "Be Wary Of Fake Embassy Representatives"

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade has said Zimbabweans should be wary of individuals pretending to be working at the country’s embassy in Beijing, China or any other Government departments.

Ms Constance Chemwayi, the Ministry’s spokesperson made the remarks during an interview with The Herald on Sunday during which she indicated that Zimbabwean nationals in China would be repatriated once all administrative arrangements are finalised. She said:

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade wishes to take this opportunity to once again advise parents and relatives of our nationals stranded in China to be on the lookout for individuals pretending to be working with the embassy in Beijing or other Government departments. Neither the embassy nor the Government discharge their duties through individuals outside of the Government system.

This comes when hundreds of Zimbabweans are stuck outside the country and some have since applied to return home citing the adverse effects of the coronavirus induced lockdown imposed by governments globally.

Air Zimbabwe which is repatriating Zimbabweans and South Africans stuck in Asia is expected to arrive in Zimbabwe on Wednesday via Johannesburg.
