WATCH: Magaisa "Heartbroken" As Zimbabweans Are "Reduced To Hunter-Gatherers"

Alex Tawanda Magaisa, the former Chief of Staff in the office of Zimbabwe’s former Prime Minister, Morgan Tsvangirai has said the deterioration of living standards in Zimbabwe has left him heartbroken.

He speaks at the backdrop of the worsening economic and humanitarian crisis in the Southern African country. Posting on Twitter, Magaisa said:

Watching this (video below) left my heart sore. Our people have been robbed of their dignity. This is what happens when a nation is run by an inept, cold and corrupt lot. They don’t even care. They loot in the name of the people. Yet the people have been reduced to hunter-gatherers.

They walk on foot from Zimbabwe to South Africa and return carrying heavy loads and through the bushes and all the hazards such a trip presents. The chap taking this video is now helping them to return to Zimbabwe. It’s as of Zimbabwe is at war & the people are refugees.

A cursory glance shows that the majority are women, showing the gendered dimensions of costs of repression & ineptitude. It’s predominantly the mothers & sisters who must perform these onerous tasks, their dignity stripped away, to fend for families thanks to an inept regime.

The socio-economic and political crises have been worsening since President Mnangagwa’s ascension to power in 2017.
