FULL THREAD: Chin’ono, Ngarivhume Profiled By Unknown Woman At 4 Am In Police Cells

Jestina Mukoko-led Zimbabwe Peace Project (ZPP) has suggested that journalist Hopewell Chin’ono and Jacob Ngarivhume of Transform Zimbabwe were profiled by an unidentified woman while in police custody.

Ironically, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has denied knowledge of the said woman. We present ZPP’s Twitter thread below.

According to the complaints filed by the defense team representing Hopewell Chin’ono in court today, Chin’ono and Ngarivhume were profiled by an unknown woman at 4 am in police cells. The police have denied knowledge of who this woman was.

This is worrying, & is testimony that indeed, the three MDC youth leaders could have been abducted from police custody. Moreso, it raises concern over the safety and personal security of suspects while they are in police custody.

Police custody should be the safest place, and unless the police are complicit, such things should never happen. This case should be investigated and the truth should come out.

The three female MDC Alliance officials in question – Joana Mamombe, Cecilia Chimbiri and Netsai Marova claimed that they were kidnapped from police custody and were tortured and sexually assaulted for about 24 hours.

Police have not yet explained how the trio was later found dumped outside Harare when they had been arrested and put in police custody the previous day.
