"It Is Highly Worrisome That Our Resources Are Being Smuggled," - ZANU PF Youth League

The ZANU PF Youth League has expressed concern over the leakage of the countries’ resources, a development the league said was prejudicing the state of lots of money.

This was said by the league’s acting Zanu PF Deputy Secretary for Youth Affairs, Tendai Chirau during a Youth League National Executive meeting in Harare this Friday. He said:

Our mining sector continues to suffer from avoidable leakages. It is highly worrisome that a lot of our minerals, especially gold, continue to be cheaply and illegally exported through criminal schemes which prejudice the nation of substantial amounts of revenue.

As the ZANU PF Youth League, we implore responsible authorities to take decisive action to stop such madness. Another area similarly bleeding the economy is the diamond sector. We have noted with abundant concern that illegal diamond dealings, which are detrimental to the national revenue flow, have become rampant in Manicaland province.

Reports of resources leakage, particularly gold, were also confirmed by the Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Mthuli Ncube during last year’s budget presentation.

Some argue that the unattractive fixed rate of US$45 per gram offered by Fidelity Printers and Refiners, Zimbabwe’s exclusive gold buyer, is encouraging smuggling.
