Zimbabwe Records 273 COVID-19 Cases And 3 Deaths In 24 Hours
Zimbabwe on Thursday, 16 July 2020, recorded three COVID-19 deaths and also the biggest ever jump in new cases in 24-hours recorded since March – 273 cases.
260 of them due to local transmission, and 231 of them in Bulawayo. The death toll is now 23 and confirmed cases 1 362.
A statement by the Ministry of Health and Child Care reads:
Two-hundred and seventy-three (273) cases tested positive for COVID-19 today. These include returnees from South Africa (12), Mozambique (1) and 260 local cases who are isolated.
Due to a backlog of sample processing at NTBRL, Bulawayo Province has reported 231 cases today which were collected over the last seven days but were not processed.

These cases will be distributed in the EpiCurve according to dates the samples were collected.
Thirty (30) recoveries were reported by Mash East Province (25) and Manicaland (5).
Today we regret to report three (3) deaths; (2) at the community level and (1) at the facility level. These deaths occurred in Bulawayo Province.
The community deaths were detected during routine post mortem as part of our COVID-19 surveillance.
Today 1156 RDT screening tests and 492 PCR diagnostic tests were done. The cumulative number of tests done to date is 97 508 (58 392 RDT and 39 116 PCR).
Since the onset of the COVID-19 outbreak on 20 March 2020, the total number of confirmed cases is 1362; recovered 225, active cases 914 and 23 deaths.
