Khupe Mulling More MDC-A MPs' Expulsion From Parliament

The Thokozani Khupe-led MDC-T has vowed to expel from Parliament all MDC Alliance (MDC-A) legislators who recently approached the High Court seeking an interdict to stop their mooted recalls from the August House.

51 MDC-A legislators were involved in the court application but interim MDC-T national chairperson Morgen Komichi told the Daily News on Monday that some of the MPs claimed that they were not consulted when the action was filed.

Komichi said the MPs have since been ordered to sign sworn affidavits distancing themselves from the court challenge, failure to do so will result in their expulsion. Said Komichi:

A good number of them are distancing themselves from the court challenge. They came to us and we have said they must then sign sworn affidavits to expose the fake application.

Those who do not do that and choose to continue to align with the MDC Alliance … will be recalled because that is what the constitution of the party says.

Lynnet Karenyi-Kore (proportional representative), Job Sikhala (Zengeza West), Innocent Gonese (Mutare Central) and Erick Murai (Highfield East) are among those thought to be set for expulsion.

Khupe has expelled several MDC-A MPs from Parliament using a controversial Supreme Court ruling which made her MDC-T acting president.

The expulsions are reportedly meant to force the legislators to switch their allegiance from MDC-A leader Nelson Chamisa to Khupe.
