Armed Men Claiming To Be From The President's Office Abduct Cousin Of Teachers' Union Leader - Report

Obert Masararure, the leader of the Amalgamated Rural Teachers’ Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) has reported that unidentified armed men claiming to be from the office of the President raided his uncle’s home searching to him.

Masaraure posted on Twitter:

Armed men raided the residence of my uncle in Kuwadzana last night. They arrived at 2 am heavily armed and said they were looking for me. I am safe for now, but worried.

They were four armed men in suits, who claimed to be from the President’s office. They abducted my cousin threatening to kill him. They later dumped him at Kuwadzana 2 shopping center after interrogating him about my whereabouts. They were in an unmarked twin cab, black in colour.
The young man, (my cousin) is heavily traumatised.
Meanwhile, the opposition MDC Alliance has condemned the “continued persecution of trade unionists, teachers and pro-democratic activists.”
The party added that the pattern of enforced disappearance, torture and persecution must end, calling upon the state to “end the continued harassment of @OMasaraure immediately.”
Masaraure is one of the leaders of teachers’ unions that have been calling for industrial action to force the government to pay workers in United States dollars.
