NBSZ Lifts Blood Coupon Facility Suspension As Govt Pays The Blood Bank $43 Million

National Blood Services Of Zimbabwe has lifted a suspension on the blood coupon facility used by public hospitals to get blood from the blood bank on credit, Health Times reports.

NBSZ stated that it lifted the suspension after treasury paid $43.5 Million of the $125 Million it owes the blood bank. The payment of the debt has necessitated NBSZ to lift the ban and continue its operations.

The development was confirmed by NBSZ Public Affairs Manager who said:

Yes we can confirm that a payment was received from the ministry and the suspension on blood coupons has been lifted with effect from today. Meanwhile, whatever further modalities which are needed will be discussed between the ministry of health and the NBSZ. NBSZ will be in consultations and discussions with the ministry of health on a payment plan for the remaining balance.

NBSZ has been having challenges securing sundries needed to collect blood due to the COVID-19 pandemic that has brought the world to its knees and affected many operations.
