Ivory Coast Prime Minister Suddenly Dies After A Cabinet Meeting

Ivory Coast Prime Minister Amadou Gon Coulibaly died yesterday barely 2 months after returning from France where he was being treated, Aljazeera reports. Coulibaly fell ill yesterday during a weekly cabinet meeting and he was rushed to the hospital and he died after admission.

According to the publication, Coulibaly’s death puts the West African country’s political situation in uncertainty because he was the ruling party’s candidate in the country’s October elections:

Coulibaly’s death creates huge uncertainty over the election in Ivory Coast, the world’s top cocoa grower, which has returned to normalcy after years of political turbulence and a brief civil war that killed 3,000 people

Coulibaly had heart surgery in 2012.
