The Unlawful, Irregular And Criminal Expulsions Must Stop - Mahere

The MDC Alliance has condemned the expulsion of eight of its senators from Parliament by the Thokozani Khupe-led MDC-T saying the move is unlawful, irregular and criminal.

MDC Alliance spokesperson Fadzayi vowed that the party will fight using all tools at its disposal stop the “ZANU PF plot” to decimate the opposition. She said:

The recall of MDC Alliance senators by a separate party that did not assign them to Senate is unlawful, irregular, and criminal. We will fight this disregard of the people’s will using all tools available to us.

Senate President Mabel Chinomona announced that following the expulsion of the senators, vacancies have arisen in their constituencies by operation of the law. She said:

Pursuant to the above, I do hereby inform the House that vacancies have arisen in these constituencies by operation of the law.

The necessary administrative measures will be taken to inform His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe and the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission of the existence of the vacancies in line with Section 39 (1) of the Electoral Act (Chapter 2:13) as amended.

To date, the MDC-T has recalled 21 MDC Alliance legislators, nine are senators while 12 are National Assembly representatives.
