Witness Dube a former aide to MDC-T leader Thokozani Khupe, has said party Secretary-General Douglas Mwonzora is the best person to lead the divided opposition party.
He speaks days after the party leadership this week launched campaigns ahead of the court-ordered extraordinary congress scheduled for the 31st of July.
Posting on Twitter, Dube said:
History beckons on 31 July as we will be aligning with our party & country law! One man has been the soul of reasoned disputations both within & without our party, @DMwonzora.
It is my greatest pleasure to nominate Douglas Togarasei Mwonzora for President of the MDC.
Mwonzora is one of the voices in the MDC that criticised the appointment of two vice presidents – Nelson Chamisa and Elias Mudzuri, by then party leader Morgan Tsvangirai saying the appointments were in violation of the party’s constitution.
He is likely to face competition from Morgen Komichi, Elias Mudzuri and incumbent leader, Thokozani Khupe as well as others from the MDC Alliance if they choose to attend.
Although the MDC-T leadership is vowing to restore the MDC to its founding principles, their colleagues in the MDC Alliance are accusing them of being used by the ruling ZANU PF to weaken the opposition in the country.
