Mater Dei Hospital Demands US$5 000 For ICU COVID-19 Treatment

Bulawayo’s Mater Dei Hospital is reportedly charging fees for admission in United States at a time when public hospitals are operating below capacity due to an ongoing strike by health workers.

According to an unsigned memorandum, one needs US$3 000 for general ward admission and one has to part with $5 000 for Intensive Care Unit (ICU) COVID-19 treatment. The memo reads:

Kindly be advised that all COVID patients are required to pay USD deposits, USD60.00 for casualty, USD3 000.00 for General Ward and USD5 000 for ICU Hospitalisation.

This comes at a time when the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases is rising, with over 600 cases reported to date.
