PICTURES: Pepsi Workers Demonstrate Over Unfair Labour Practices
The workers at Varun Beverages (Pepsi) on Wednesday demonstrated in Harare over unfair labour practices.
Amongst their grievances are sexual harassment and abuse, racism and poor wages.
This is the second day of demonstrations at this company which manufactures Pepsi-Cola after they embarked on the protest on Monday.
Meanwhile, riot police have arrived at the company to maintain peace and order. See pictures below.
Some allege that the majority of workers, who are Zimbabwean nationals, are being paid about US$8 while their Indian counterparts earn about US$2000.

In December last year, the Indian beverages manufacturer said it had directly employed 1 000 local people, while 1 500 women had been empowered financially through the allocation of vending trolleys.

Chairman for Varun Beverages, Ravi Jaipuria, revealed that over and above that, 22 000 families had benefited directly and indirectly from the company.

The demonstrations come when the anti-racism campaign has regained enthusiasm across the world following the murder of two African-American males – George Floyd and Rayshard Brooks by police in the USA.
It also comes barely a week after a Chinese mine manager, Zhang Xuelin, shot and injured two Zimbabwean employees in Gweru following a salary dispute.
