MDC Alliance Officials Defect To Khupe's MDC-T

MDC Alliance official and leader in the party’s Epworth Branch Musa Mabika has said three councillors Batanai Masunda, Gift July and Joshua Chinonyengerwa had abandoned the Nelson Chamisa led camp and joined MDC-T led by Thokozani Khupe.

Speaking to Zim Morning Post, Mabika who is the current Chairperson of Epworth Local Board and former spokesperson of the party’s Youth Assembly in Harare Province said:

Masunda, July and Joshua abandoned the party and as Epworth district, we are pushing to have them recalled then we field our own loyal councillors who understand the people’s project and are willing to stand with our party leader.

The desertion comes when MDC-T Wednesday recalled eight (8) more MDC Alliance senators a move seen as a strategy to force MDC Alliance to declare allegiance to the Khupe-led faction.

Khupe was reinstated as the leader of the MDC-T by the Supreme Court ruling on the MDC leadership crisis. The ruling caused more friction in the MDC as those aligned to Chamisa are refusing to accept the outcome.

They say Khupe contested in the 2018 elections with another MDC-T formed that year, therefore, she cannot claim leadership of another party (MDC-A) which contested in the 2-198 elections under Chamisa’s leadership.
