“The Net Is Closing In On Coup Purveyors, I Can Assure You,” – Defence Minister

The Minister of Defence and War Veterans, Oppah Muchinguri Kashiri has said that plans were underway to deal with individuals who “misinformed” the nation that there was a plot to oust president Mnangagwa.

Her remarks come after the Minister of Home Affairs, flanked by military chiefs, recently denounced the rumours saying nothing of that sort will happen.

Muchinguri-Kashiri told Parliament on Monday that such misinformation was dangerous adding that those who promoted the rumour need to be dealt with decisively. She said:

These are people who are bent on bringing the country into disrepute so I cannot tell you how we are going to deal with it but the net is closing in on them, I can assure you. This is not something we can take lightly.

We have to deal with it because they misinform (the public). We already have a bill to that effect on how we deal with people who peddle lies particularly on security situations because what we want is for our people at every given time to have confidence in their own security forces, their capacity and capability to protect the people of Zimbabwe and also for us to be able to operate and ensure that we develop our country.

There have been reports that Mnangagwa’s deputy, Constantino Chiwenga is working hand-in-glove with military chiefs to topple his boss.
