Farmers Have Delivered 70K Tonnes Of Grains So Far - GMB

The Grain Marketing Board has received 70 000 tonnes of Grains from farmers since the first of April, The Herald reports. The statistics were given by GMB CEO Mr Rockie Mutenha who gave the following breakdown and said these were the grains that have been delivered to their 110 depots countrywide:

  1. 68 466 tonnes of maize,
  2. 1 500 tonnes of sorghum,
  3. 954 tonnes of soyabeans
  4. 70 tonnes of millet.

Mutenha said:

We are encouraging farmers to deliver the grain to the GMB depots. We have 110 collection points and several mobile buying points.

GMB is paying within 72 hours of delivery. All farmers who delivered their grain have been paid 30 percent incentive bonus, which runs up to end of July.

Farmers are getting $16 028 per tonne of maize and $16 725 per tonne of traditional grains since the GMB is paying a 30% incentive bonus to farmers.
