Telecash Follows EcoCash, NetOne In Ignoring Mobile Money Ban

Mobile money platform Telecash has ignored the government’s directive to suspend phone-based transactions until such a time authorities permit them to resume operations.

On Friday night the Information Ministry permanent secretary Nick Mangwana announced that mobile money companies should suspend their operations with immediate effect.

But in a statement on Saturday afternoon, state-owned telecommunications company Telecel advised its clients that Telecash was still operating as usual. The statement read:

Please be advised that the Telecash mobile money service is operating as normal.

Telecel

Earlier on Saturday, OneMoney, operated by State-owned Mobile Network Operator (MNO) NetOne, assured its subscribers that its services are still operating normally.

Cassava Smartech’s EcoCash which controls 94 per cent of the mobile money market, also its subscribers to remain calm and continue transacting as they wait for further instruction from their service provider.
