MDC Alliance Trio Challenges State To Prove Existence Of Footage Suggesting They Were Not Abducted

MDC Alliance Trio, Joana Mamombe, Cecilia Chimbiri and Netsai Marova on Monday challenged the state to prove they had not been abducted.

They made the challenge when they appeared before High Court judge David Foroma who deferred ruling on their bail hearing to Friday.

The trio had previously been denied bail on the basis that there was a CCTV footage of them in Belgravia during the time they say they were abducted.

Through their lawyer Alec Muchadehama, the three argued:

The state were also unable to produce despite our demand that it should be produced. The existence was put in issue.

In the event that it will be produced there will be serious challenges.

Representing the state, Alami saide the  evidence placed before the court was to place it on record that there was overwhelming evidence against the applicants adding that “this evidence was not refuted by the defence.”

The three are being accused of lying that they were kidnapped from police custody thereby putting the name of the country into disrepute.

Muchadehama argued that the state was responsible for the leak of the trio’s statement therefore they can’t be held accountable for the effects the confession had on the state.
