Chinese National Who Shot 2 Employees In Gweru Remanded In Custody

The Chinese International who allegedly shot and seriously injured two of his employees on Sunday apperead before Gweru magistrate Edwin Marecha who remanded him in custody.

Zhang Xuelinthe (41) is accused of attempted murder after he shot and injured Wendy Chikwaira (31) and Kennedy Tachiona (39) at his gold mine premises following a dispute over salaries.

NewsDay reports that there was heavy police presence at the Court as the state was anticipating that miners and residents would protest against the Chinese national.

Ignatius Mupfiga, the lawyer representing the Chinese national told Southern Eye that he would apply for bail at the High Court.

Meanwhile, Tachiona is admitted at a private hospital in Gweru while Chikwaira was treated and discharged from hospital.

The Chinese Embassy responding to the reports said Xuelin must be investigated according to the law of Zimbabwe.

The Chinese company has said it regretted the shooting adding that it was committed to meet medical bills for the two former workers and negotiate compensation with the families of the victims.

The Chinese community in Gweru on Monday said the incident was regrettable and did not reflect their behaviour.
