Lockdown Forces PSL Clubs To Supplement Their Budgets
Premier Soccer League (PSL) clubs have been forced to supplement their budgets for them to keep up with rising costs due to inflation as well the possibility that the 2020 season will go beyond December when football activities resume.
Clubs have been paying for the upkeep of their players who are not performing their contractual duties and in some instances, they have even been forced to pay their staff cushioning allowances.
Dynamos chairman, Isaiah Mupfurutsa told The Herald that they have consistently paid players during the lockdown period, but the club’s accounts will be already in the negative by the time the season commences. He said:
You cannot really tell what is going to happen but there is a very big likelihood of the season, once it commences, to go beyond December, which is the period when we normally end the term.
We had already drawn our budget for the 2020 season before the COVID-19 calamity hit us, resulting in the necessary lockdown.

Dynamos have been “fortunate” in the sense that their principal sponsors have continued to honour all their contractual agreements while two of the country’s traditional giants, Highlanders and CAPS United, are in dire straits after sponsors, NetOne, withdrew their sponsorship.
