"EFF Ran Payback The Money Campaign Against Zuma, What's Zim Opposition Against Corruption?" - Chin'ono

Zimbabwean award-winning journalist and filmmaker, Hopewell Chin’ono has called the Zimbabwean opposition to action following the exposure of corruption scandals on COVID-19 response in the country.

He alluded to the “Payback the money” campaign that was run by the Economic Freedom Fighters in South Africa when that country’s then-president, Jacob Zuma was implicated in corruption scandals. He said:

When Jacob Zuma was implicated in LOOTING scandals, @Julius_S_Malema and the EFF ran the “Pay Back The Money” campaign. It galvanised the citizen anger! Zuma would be removed from power as he became a liability. What is our opposition going to do with the #CovidGate exposures?

Chin’ono makes the remarks amid reports that Drax International, a company that is reportedly linked to the first family reportedly duped the country of millions of dollars through a shady medical equipment deal.

The reports triggered public outrage and increased calls for President Emmerson Mnangagwa to recall the Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr Obadiah Moyo.

Some have said the president cannot champion the prosecution of involved individuals since his family is deeply sunk in the scandal.

The opposition, according to some, is passive as far as bringing the government to accountability is concerned.
