MDC Alliance secretary for policy and research Tapiwa Mashakada has criticised the ‘unilateral’ decision by the party leader Nelson Chamisa to elevate Fadzayi Mahere to the post of party spokesperson when she has less than five years since joining the party.
He was speaking during a live interview on SlyMedia’s Facebook platform during which he claimed that Chamisa now surrounds himself with an autocratic cabal, comprised of former student leaders, which will not allow him to go to the extra-ordinary Congress. Mashakada added:
I thought we were right, but once the Supreme Court ruled, we have to abide by the court judgment. (The late Morgan) Tsvangirai would have done the same.
We made a strategic error to catapult Chamisa to be leader of the party without then going to an extra-ordinary Congress. It was a fatal error.
He added that it was immature to continue saying President Mnangagwa was illegitimate saying what was essential was to push him to deliver change to the people of Zimbabwe.
Mashakada also said that elevating Mahere is a wrong that needs to be corrected.
He also urged Mnangagwa to listen to the voice of reason adding that the MDC Alliance trio, Joana Mamombe, Cecilia Chimbiri and Netsai Marova were abducted saying those who argue otherwise should present evidence.
