ZIMRA Records A 100 % Increase In The Volume Of Trucks At Beitbridge Border Post

Traffic continues to overwhelm Beitbridge border post as ZIMRA this week recorded a 100% increase in the volume of trucks at the border, New Zimbabwe reports.

According to ZIMRA Head of Corporate Communications Francis Chimanda, ZIMRA is clearing over 800 trucks per day:

ZIMRA is currently clearing and releasing on average +800 trucks per day, compared to an average of +/-400 in 2019.

The Beitbridge Annual Report for 2019 shows an average of 345 trucks per day

Chimanda tried to explain why traffic increased so drastically at the border and said:

Latest Tecno Pop 8 - now available in Pindula.

The increase has been largely been attributed to the different Covid-19 testing protocols implemented by different countries in the region, which have seen transporters diverting their trucks from some routes to and from South Africa and transiting through Zimbabwe, resulting in the increase in the flow of traffic through Beitbridge

ZIMRA also said it was working towards turning the turnaround time. Trucks and returning residents are being allowed to enter into the country as the border remains closed to travellers due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
