Police officers in Masvingo have arrested 9 MDC Alliance chairpersons who were meeting at the party’s Masvingo offices for violating lockdown restrictions, New Zimbabwe reports.
Their arrests and detention were confirmed by Zimbabwe human rights lawyer, Martin Mureri who said:
Nine MDC Alliance district chairpersons were arrested at their party offices. They spent the day in police custody without any charges being laid against them.
I was later advised that they had violated lockdown restrictions and were made to pay $600 fine each for their release
Their arrest came barely a week after the Khupe led faction with the help of the army and the police took over MDC Alliance headquarters in Harare, ZRP also arrested 5 MDC officials on the same day for violating lockdown restrictions.
