WATCH: Kenya's Chief Justice Criticises President Kenyatta For Disregarding Court Orders

Kenya’s Chief Justice, David Maraga has criticised that country’s President Uhuru Kenyatta over failure to swear in 41 judges proposed by Judicial Service Commission.

Maraga said he has failed to get an appt with the president and highlighted his disregard of Court orders adding that the “government cannot demand of citizens’ obedience of the law it is itself disobeying.”

Alex Tawanda Magaisa, a law lecturer in the United Kingdom, commenting on the development suggested that the case is similar to that of Zimbabwe save for the fact that no one has tried to hold President Mnangagwa accountable. He said:

Compare this to Zimbabwe where the Chief Justice & Judicial Services Commission were supposed to start the process of appointing judges to the Constitutional Court long before 22/05/20. When the day arrived, they had done nothing & appointed 5 acting judges!

Government critics have on several occasions argued that there is no rule of law and independence of the judiciary in Zimbabwe as Executive arm of government intervenes with and influences operations of the judiciary.
