Covid-19 Should Not Derail Infrastructural Development - Matiza On The Bulawayo-Nkayi Rehabilitation

The Minister of Transport Joe Biggie Matiza while touring unfinished roadworks along the Bulawayo-Nkayi & the Bulawayo Tsholotsho Road said the government was prioritising completing that road despite the COVID-19 pandemic gripping the entire world, The Chronicle reports.

The engineers working on the project outlined their plans to finish rehabilitation the 2KM stretch along the Bulawayo Vic Falls Road this week and move to the Bulawayo Tsholotsho road which they will complete in 10 days and move to the Bulawayo Nkayi road.

Speaking about the Bulawayo Nkayi road which has received a lot of attention and drawn public outcry over its current state, Minister Matiza said they were working on it and COVID-19 would not stop its rehabilitation:

It is the President’s wish to ensure that roads countrywide are done. That is why priority is given now even during Covid-19 to fix some of the major roads. We are getting support to complete roads that were on-going. Nkayi Road is one of the roads that needs to be completed. Government is moving forward to ensure that we finish this road.

It is an economic road, it is vital to the region, it is vital to the province. It needs to be completed. I’m happy that work is going on. What we might need to do is to accelerate the works. That is what His Excellency wants to see. Covid-19 should not derail infrastructural development.
