MDC Alliance Official Admitted To Hospital After Assault By Police

The deputy national spokesperson of the youth assembly in the opposition has been admitted after being assaulted by police officers.

The party posted on Twitter suggesting that Womberai Nhende was admitted in the early hours of Saturday. The party posted.

Around 1am Womberai Nhende was admitted in hospital under police guard. He is in bad shape and Drs are investigating to rule out head injury and chest trauma. Wombe was assaulted by @PoliceZimbabwe during his arrest outside MRT House.

On Friday, the party’s recently appointed national spokesperson, Fadzayi Mahere had reported that Nhende was in bad shape. Said Mahere:

police outside Harvest House today for no reason.

He can’t breathe and urgently requires medical attention. Police refused to release him to be seen by his doctors.

The report comes when six senior officials of the MDC Alliance were arrested yesterday for criminal nuisance.

The party’s two vice presidents, Tendai Biti and Lynnette Karenyi-Kore, Gladys Hlatswayo, Lovemore Chinoputsa, Vongai Tome and David Antony Chimhini are in police custody after they reportedly tried to repossess Harvest House.

The building was seized by the Thokozani Khupe led MDC-T with the help of the army and the police amid power wrangles in the MDC.
